My Togo is a browser hijacker extension, which is advertised as a tool for browsing the internet anonymously. It is designed to promote its fake search engine – togosearching.com.
The browser hijacker like My Togo usually targets browsers with a large user base such as Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Microsoft Edge, and Safari. More such malicious hijackers are – Smart Search, SportsBlast, HistCleaner.
After successfully entering your system, My Togo will change the browser settings to promote its fake search engine. It will change the default homepage, default search engine, and even opening a new tab will redirect you to – togosearching.com.
It is worth noting that such search engines don’t have the capability of producing their search results. They redirect their search queries to real search engines such as – Google, Yahoo, Bing, etc. My Togo is no different. It redirects its search queries to Yahoo’s search engine.
Apart from the redirection and changing browser settings, My Togo has data tracking abilities too. It can record the browsing activities of the users such as search history, search queries, key logs, IP addresses, etc. These pieces of information can be further sold to cybercriminals for conducting malicious activities.
