Site Villain


SiteVillain is a misleading security program created to be sold by means of fraudulent activities including the use of Trojan to spread this unwanted application. SiteVillain can sneak into computers when a user visits a website equipped with a harmful script that will dropped and install this program unknown to users. After installation, SiteVillain will arrange itself to run on Windows start-up by creating its own entry on the registry. This functionality will allow the program to run automatic fake virus scan and disable legitimate security programs on the infected computer. To further attract users, it will generate random pop-up alerts and messages that will scare computer users, enough for them to get convince in acquiring the registered version of the program.

What are the Symptoms of SiteVillain Infection?

It will modify Windows Registry and add the following entries:

  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run “%System%\8enyqcv1.exe”
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Run “%ProgramFiles%\SiteVillain Software\SiteVillain\SiteVillain.exe -min”
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SiteVillain
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Current Version\Uninstall\SiteVillain

The threat will drop the following malicious files:

  • %Program Files%\SiteVillain Software\SiteVillain\SiteVillain.exe
  • %Program Files%\SiteVillain Software\SiteVillain\uninstall.exe
  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\SiteVillain

  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\SiteVillain\2 Homepage.lnk
  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\SiteVillain\3 Uninstall.lnk
  • %Documents and Settings%\All Users\Desktop\SiteVillain.lnk
  • %Temp%\nss8.tmp
  • %Temp%\nsj3.tmp
  • %Temp%\nsn6.tmp
  • %Temp%\2gbk87zj.exe
  • %Temp%\8enyqcv1.exe

How to Remove SiteVillain Manually

1. Restart your computer in SafeMode
– After Power-On the computer, just before Windows start, press F8
– From the selections, Select SafeMode

2. Remove Registry entries that the threat added. You MUST BACKUP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST.
– Click Start > Run
– Type in the field, regedit
– Navigate and look for the registry entries mentioned above and delete if necessary

3. Delete malicious files that the threat added:
– Base on the given location above, browse and delete the file
– If no location is given, click Start>Search> and search for the files.
– If cannot be deleted, press Ctrl+Alt+Del to access Task Manager, see if the file is running in the process. If it is, select the file and click End Process. Perform file delete again.

4. Scan computer with Antivirus Program
– Update antivirus program
– Scan computer and delete all detected threats.
