What is uTorrentie and Web Helper?
uTorrent takes help of the web helper process to display banner ads. However, if you search in the windows explorer by the name of Web Helper you won’t find anything. The Web Helper process is handled by utorrentie.exe file. This file resides in the roaming folder of uTorrent.
This file not considered as harmful as the actions of the program is not like a virus. However, it is used to display ads; that’s why it is categorised as adware. It has been seen that the adware programs show ads in the browser through pop-ups, redirects, or banners. But the utorrent.exe doesn’t do that; it only displays the ads in the uTorrent interface.
Why is uTorrentie created?
The main objective of this program is to serve the ads. We all know that uTorrent is a free program, but somehow, the developer needs to make money so that they could continue serving the program free of cost. That’s why they decided to serve the ads in the interface.
The developer could serve ads like in your browser, which are your interest-based, but there is no way to track the interest of the users in the uTorrent program. That’s the reason they choose to serve misleading, fake, and dubious ads on their interface. Also, most of the big company doesn’t want to serve ads on the uTorrent, so they have to do this.
For this reason, uTorrentie.exe is supplied to the users. The name of the program itself suggests that it is used to serve ads. The ie stands for internet explorer which is used to display the HTML, Java, or Flash-based ads on the uTorrent interface.
Is uTorrentie.exe Harmful?
Since Web Helper is used to serving ads, you must be thinking, should I remove utorrent.exe? uTorrentie.exe file or WebHelper process itself is not harmful. They don’t take any action to harm your data. However, due to this file, the displaying ads could cause problems.

How to Remove uTorrentie without removing uTorrent?

So, we need to find a way that the program won’t generate it again and ads don’t show.
Step 1 – Remove uTorrentie.exe File
We are going to create a dummy utorrentie.exe and change its permission to read-only. This way, uTorrent will not regenerate it, and the ads will not display. Follow the below steps.
First, close the uTorrent application, then click on the show hidden icons arrow. Now Right-Click on the uTorrent application and choose Exit.
Then click on Yes to close uTorrent application.
Open windows explorer, click on the View and then tick the boxes of File name extensions and Hidden items.
Now press Win+R button, type notepad and press OK.
Now click on the File > Save As…
Then browse through below folders.
Replace Your_Username with the current user name, in the updates folder open the last folder it could be different for you.
Type the file name as utorrentie.exe and then click on the Save button.
Then click Yes to confirm the replace.
Close the notepad and open the location where you saved the file in the above step. Check the size of the exe file it should be 0KB.
Now right click on the file and choose Properties.
Tick the box of Read-only then click on the Apply and OK.
That’s it, now the uTorrentie.exe will not create the WebHelper process, and you won’t see the ads in the uTorrent application.
